Thats's My Story
(It's not a play, it's a movement!)
At our May 22nd Bword event, we changed the format from on-stage sharing to a round table discussion. The intimacy allowed women to share their personal stories, but mostly we discussed universal stories of friends and colleagues who have been affected, at times paralyzed, by the things that have happened in their lives. The theme of "the personal is universal" was strong. We invite women to share their stories here anonymously (or at our next event if you'd like to go public or become part of the creative team.) We will soon begin to create stories that will allow women (and sometimes men) to say, "That's my story too."
We are aware that these stories can also serve as triggers for victims of abuse; we will proceed with caution and respect the participants in the creative process and our future audiences.
Here were some of the topics raised:
Date Rape/Rape/Unwanted attention
Partner Abuse (physical, emotional,, sexual)
Post-Reporting Abuse (i.e., Victim Blaming, by men AND women)
Authority Abuse by coaches, priests, bosses
The legal process and all its weaknesses
Paralysis (the inability to move on after a life-altering, traumatic event)
If you have a story that relates to any of the above or about anything else you'd like us to consider as we
Here's My Story
Share your story however you'd like... as narrative, as a collection of random words, as rap, poetry, whatever... below you can tell us how you'd like us to handle this information.
You do NOT have to include your name.
You do not have to include your email address unless you want to know about upcoming events.
This is what I'd like you to do with my story...
If you would like us to USE your story as fodder for our theatre piece, let us know. If you'd like to share this story at a Bword event, tell us (but definitely include your email address). If you simply shared to get it off your chest, let us know that too.
